Hello and welcome to another Side-Quest episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone! This week, we’re talking about bosses in video games. The biggest challenge- how to ask Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, for a raise.
As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere you want. Check it out on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below
The Topic
Where did boss battles come from? When did they start? What different functions do they serve within a video game? Why do games need them? Or do they need them in the first place? Should we abolish the video game boss fight with our power as a small gaming podcast? We cannot do this, regardless, just so you know.
The Actual Discussion
We talk about good boss fights and bad boss fights, from popular opinion and our own experience. We discuss different types of boss fights, and how those fights fit or don’t fit the rest of the game. Also, we dip our toe into the discussion of difficulty again (side-note: anyone can play on Easy, including journalists for reviews, people are being stupid and mean on purpose) as far as it pertains to the boss fight.
