What’s up with all the layoffs in games media (and media in general) recently? Why are they a problem for games media specifically? What are some of the struggles surrounding writing reviews for games that aren’t present in writing reviews for books, TV, movies, etc? Can these difficulties be solved? How does the relationship between games media and game creators hinder this?
The Actual Discussion
We mourn the recent loss of Waypoint alongside many other layoffs in games media over the past few months. We also talk about why these layoffs are harmful for games criticism as a whole. On the way, we talk about the struggles of reviewing games that may be different from the final product. And finally, we do not jump in front of the bullet for Nintendo. Don’t do that.
