Side-Quest 191. Certified Fresh Big Screen Games

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone. This week, we’re talking about video game movies (and other adaptations). Let’s make more stage musicals instead, imo.

As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere. Check it out on Apple PodcastsYouTubeSpotify, or Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below!

The Topic

What the heck went wrong with the Borderlands movie? Could it even have gone right in the first place? What are some of the challenges of adapting a video game for the big screen? Should execs be focusing on TV show adaptations instead? Why do we even want video game movies in the first place.

The Actual Discussion

We talk about the few success stories in adaptation, and we talk about the many, many failures. Through that, we try to figure out what makes a successful adaptation and which properties are ideal for the movie or TV show treatment. We also try to predict which of the many, many, many optioned game adaptations out there will actually end up getting made.

Enjoy the episode! Tell us what you think in the comments or on social media. Make sure to check out last week’s episode and look forward to next week’s where we’re talking about Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and Balatro.
