Hello and welcome to another Side-Quest episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone! We’re talking about Madelyn’s choice of side-quest topic which is remakes and remasters. It’s our favorite game: Unsuccessfully Try to Define Some Words.
As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere you want. Check it out on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below!
What makes a remake? What distinguishes it from a remaster, a “definitive edition,” or a port? Why do we like remakes? Why do there seem to be so many of them? What are the different levels of “remake,” from stuff that makes major changes to stuff that simply updates as close as possible?
The Actual Discussion
We stay pretty well on topic this time! We talk a little about the history of remakes before focusing in on the modern landscape. Also, we talk about different philosophies behind remakes and whether they’re all simple cash-grabs or not. Finally, we go in to the weird world of fan remakes, what motivates that work, and different corporation responses.
Enjoy the episode! Tell us what you think in the comments or on social media. Make sure to check out last week’s episode and look forward to next week’s where we’re talking about Mass Effect and Sayonara Wild Hearts.
And don’t forget to check out our YouTube channel for the Play This! series, Flashback Fridays, Clickbait Boyfriend Behind-The-Scenes, and other random content! The next video will be a short one going through our Fall Guys foibles. Look forward to it!
Make an effort this week too, if you can.
