Hello and welcome to another Side-Quest episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone! It’s Madelyn’s choice of side-quest topic, and she kicked us right into the deep end of the weird intersections between gaming and politics. Oh boy.
As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere you want. Check it out on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below!
Inspired by AOC’s recent Among Us stream, we dig in to the intersection between politics and gaming. What’s the good and bad of that? How might politicians be able to use streaming and games to connect with new voter bases? Is there anything dangerous about building fandom around an elected official? How might such efforts backfire?
The Actual Discussion
This is obviously too big of a topic to contain in a 60 minute episode, so we jump around a lot to a few different points of interest. We talk about concerns we have with politicians crossing over into the streaming world along with the opportunities that that could offer. We wonder how long it took some intern to score Raymond for Joe Biden’s Animal Crossing island, and if Biden would even recognize the importance of having Raymond. There’s lots of stuff to touch on here.
