Side-Quest 207. Holding Hands and Punching Stuff

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone. This week, we’re talking about stealing mechanics in video games. We’d like to plan more heists, can someone get on that?

As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere. Check it out on Apple PodcastsYouTubeSpotify, or Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below!

The Topic

What are the different types of player-character cooperation? When does it feel good to cooperate with the computer, and when doesn’t it? What do players like out of a companion character and what don’t they like? How can one possibly make an escort quest fun?

The Actual Conversation

We talk about team-up attacks versus more ongoing cooperation in games and what makes each one work or not. We also talk about the power of holding hands and what makes a computer character feel more like a real person. The conversation is mostly about player and character cooperation, but we also go a little bit into what makes this dynamic different than cooperation in a multiplayer game.
