The Topic

Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077

When and why do celebrities show up in video games? Why might a video game want to feature a Hollywood actor or other celebrity? What’s the difference between appearing as themselves and appearing as a character? Why did Keanu Reeves agree to do Cyberpunk anyway?

The Actual Discussion

Orlando Bloom's likeness as William Turner in Kingdom Hearts 2

We talk about all the places where celebrities have shown up in games, either as likenesses or just as voice actors. We also go into the reasons why Hollywood actors might like appearing in games and why we might see more of them. However, there’s definitely still a distinction between gamer and non-gamer celebrities – however much that matters.
