What are the different ways that video games use time? How do they choose to line it up with the real-world clock or not? What effect do these choices have on the gameplay or story experience? What are some of the problems that are introduced through the use of time systems?

The Actual Conversation

We talk about games that line up with real-world time, and we talk about games that shrink the in-game day down to some comparatively miniscule amount of time. We also talk about how the culture has shifted our relationship to these sorts of games, and our general patience with them. There are also a bunch of extraneous cool examples of games that use time systems that we highlight.
