Hello, and welcome to another episode of Talk This! It’s Dangerous to Podcast Alone. This week, we’re talking about using your voice in video games, to talk to fake people/creatures and to real people/creatures.
As always, you can listen to our podcast basically anywhere. Check it out on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Spotify, or Pandora (or head over to our episodes page for even more options). Or just listen below!
The Topic

Where did voice chat come from, and what are its benefits and problems? What are some of the unique ways that games have made use of voice control and other voice-based systems? Why aren’t there more video games that make use of voice systems, outside of just standard voice chat?
The Actual Conversation

We talk about how player voice has factored into video games over the years, from issuing commands to a Pikachu to having nice conversations with your Seaman. We also go over our hesitations and reservations about using voice chat with strangers versus our latest experiences with Big Walk together. Plus, we float some ideas for voice controls in games (we don’t have a lot, which is maybe a reason why there’s not a lot out there).
